The short answer

What the record adds up to

  • Skynamo scores higher overall, 8.3 against 8.1. The reason behind a point of difference matters more than the point itself.
  • HubSpot CRM is ahead on depth of features and support and skills.
  • Skynamo is ahead on value for money and south african fit.
  • Skynamo is not published on a basis that can be set beside the other price, so the two cannot be subtracted honestly. Read the plan notes instead.
  • On South African fit Skynamo is the stronger of the two. Offline working is designed around South African coverage realities.

HubSpot CRM

Free to start, then about R112 per seat per month on Starter. HubSpot charges seven dollars per seat billed annually, converted here at sixteen rand to the dollar, so your card is debited in dollars and your bank adds a conversion fee on top. Monthly billing costs closer to twenty dollars per seat. The real budgeting risk is not Starter. It is the jump to Professional, which is many times the price, and the marketing contact tiers that increase as your database grows.

Skynamo

Priced per user per month and quoted after a demonstration. There is no public rate card. The number worth calculating is not the subscription but the change in orders captured per representative per day, because that is where the product either pays for itself quickly or does not pay at all. Ask for reference customers with field teams of a similar size and ask them that question directly.

Capability

What each one actually does

The capabilities we tested in each review, written out rather than reduced to ticks in a grid. A tick tells you a feature exists. It does not tell you whether it is any good.

HubSpot CRM

Free CRM
Unlimited contacts and a working deal pipeline at no cost with no card required. Genuinely usable rather than a trial with the features removed.
Deal pipelines
Visual pipelines that sales people update without being chased, which is the only measure of a CRM that matters in practice.
Email and meeting tools
Templates, sequences and a booking link that removes the scheduling exchange. The booking link alone converts a surprising number of prospects.
Breeze AI
Drafts outreach and summarises records. Helpful for a first draft, and it still needs a human who knows the customer before anything is sent.
Reporting
Dashboards are strong even on lower tiers, although the most useful attribution reporting sits behind the higher hubs.

Skynamo

Field order capture
Representatives take orders on a tablet at the customer, with current pricing and stock, so the order reaches the office without a phone call or a paper form.
Route and visit planning
Plans which customers to see and in what order, which lifts the number of productive calls a representative makes in a day.
Offline mobile working
Captures orders and visit notes without signal and syncs when coverage returns. This is the feature that makes it work on South African routes.
Customer visit history
Every visit, order and note against the customer record, so a new representative taking over a route is not starting blind.
Accounting and ERP integration
Pushes orders into the ledger or ERP so invoicing follows automatically instead of being re captured by an administrator.

Getting it running

Setup, and who answers when it breaks

HubSpot CRM

What it takes to start

You can be using the free tier in ten minutes, which is the point. The work is not installation, it is deciding your pipeline stages and required fields before the team starts entering deals. Import contacts from CSV or connect Gmail or Outlook. Doing the pipeline design properly first is what separates a CRM people use from one they abandon.

When something breaks

The free tier gets community support and documentation, which is extensive and genuinely good. Paid tiers add email and chat, and higher hubs add a phone line. There is a competent local partner community for implementation. Because billing is in dollars, support escalation follows a global process rather than a local one.

Skynamo

What it takes to start

Quick by field sales standards. Representatives are set up with the customer list and the price file, and the integration to your ledger or ERP is the substantive piece of work. Pilot with one route before rolling out, because the value depends on representatives using it at every visit rather than on the configuration.

When something breaks

Local support and onboarding, which matters when your users are in cars rather than at desks and cannot troubleshoot for themselves. Ask what training is included for new representatives, because sales teams turn over and the product only works if the next person is trained properly.

Strengths and limits

Where each one gives ground

HubSpot CRM

  • The free tier is a genuine CRM with unlimited contacts and a working pipeline, not a trial
  • Sales people actually update it, which is the only measure of a CRM that matters
  • The meeting booking link removes the scheduling exchange and measurably lifts conversion
  • The step from Starter to Professional is many times the price and arrives sooner than expected
  • Billed in dollars with no rand pricing, so every invoice carries a bank conversion cost
  • Marketing contact tiers increase the bill as your database grows, whether or not you email them

Skynamo

  • Built for reps in the field rather than adapted from an office CRM
  • Works offline, which matters on South African roads and rural routes
  • Integrates with local ledgers so orders reach invoicing cleanly
  • Narrow by design, so it is not a general purpose CRM
  • Per user pricing only appears after a conversation
  • Value depends on reps actually using it every visit

Local view

How each one behaves in South Africa

HubSpot CRM

HubSpot has no South African billing entity, so you are charged in dollars and your bank adds a conversion fee on every invoice. At the free tier that does not matter. At Professional it becomes a real and variable line in your budget that moves with the exchange rate. There is a good local partner community for implementation. The advice for a South African business is to start free, stay free while it serves you, and model the Professional pricing at a conservative exchange rate before you build your whole revenue process on it.

Skynamo

Skynamo understands a market where a rep drives a route, signal drops and the order still has to reach the office. The offline handling is the reason to look at it. If your sales happen over email and video calls, a conventional CRM will serve you better and cost less.

Closing judgement

What we said about each one

HubSpot CRM

Start free, stay free as long as it serves you, and model the Professional pricing carefully before you make it the centre of your sales operation.

Skynamo

An excellent fit for a South African field sales team taking orders on the road, and clearly built by people who understand that market. If your selling happens over email and video calls, a conventional CRM will cost less and serve you better.
